Flying Cross Border Collies

Our Story

I am Micayla and I grew up in Southeastern Wyoming on a cattle ranch.  I have always been passionate about ranching in many different aspects.  I don't remember a single time in my life in which I wasn't surrounded by Border Collies.  In fact, I shared many birthdays with puppies born that same day.  I grew up watching my dad raise and train Border Collies my entire life so it would only be natural for me to follow in his steps at a young age...right?  Wrong...I didn't train my first dog until I was in college! After training a couple dogs I found out why my dad enjoyed it so much.  I was just using what I knew about stockmanship and applied it to teaching a dog how to help me do my job better. Later, I had many asking me for tips and tricks to training a working dog. My answer remains the same today—don’t complicate it.

Our Mission

Flying Cross Border Collies strives to preserve traditional Border Collies—remaining ranch raised and rooted in reliable genetics—available to the working cowboy.

We hope to accomplish this by keeping things simple.  Use proven genetics, taking advantage of their natural instincts when training, and create a respect bound relationship.

Meet The Pack

Paulie is a loose eye loose dog.  She has really come to love working chute side.  She has a lot of natural instinct, as she uses minimal commands. She also excels at using pressure release.  She doesn’t rely on bite to get her job done.

Tres is a loose eye gritty dog.  She is the only gritty dog we own and she has proven her spot here by being tougher than nails.  She will be there to take on the worst of your herd that you keep meaning to cull.  Tres is extremely biddable and aims to please you every day.

Duck is still young, but she is fitting right into our program.  She is registered with MISR, Chant, and Reyes genetics.

McCall is a strong eye loose dog. He excels at distance and loves to bring cattle from deep canyons.  Although big, McCall has a lot of drive and gives his all.  He is very biddable and will try almost anything you ask of him.

Kilo is a loose eye loose dog.  He climbed up the ladder quick at our place proving that he is the true definition of focus.  Although young, he is gaining greater distance and will be a fantastic big circle kind of dog. When he is working close to cattle he puts on his laser focus.

Fun Facts about Micayla:

She is a ruminant nutritionist by trade, she loves being creative, and her obsession with cows and border collies is probably borderline unhealthy

Weston Boxberger of Saratoga, WY makes great training leashes in many different colors and braids

Katie, WY

"June is one of the most intuitive dogs I have ever been around. She anticipates stock movement and is always one step ahead. She works great in big country and will range quite far, but she also is great for small cell grazing moves. She's also a wonderful companion and family dog.  We just started her sister and anticipate similar traits"

Lane, MT

"I've had two pups out of Paulie and McCall; and they've been very similar. They have been stout, good looking pups with outstanding endurance. They rarely get injured and have been easy to get along with. They balance good, have plenty of drive, and are strong clean biters. To say I have been pleased with these dogs would be an understatement!"

Laura, TX

"My first dog from Flying Cross Border Collies is also my first working dog to start, so I know it's of no credit to myself when she already receives comments from other breeders such as 'She is very sensible, smart, and efficient in the way she tracks cattle'. Not to mention you couldn't build a prettier border collies--she is the perfect size, traditionally marked, and pricked ears"

Cory, CO

"When I purchased Zeke, I was looking for a good working dog at an affordable price. I ended up with an extremely natural cow dog that was easy to train. Zeke loves his job and doesn't quit until the work is done. He is easily the best cow dog I've ever owned. Zeke is a family dog as well that is patient and gentle with my children"
